The Northern Ohio Youth Orchestras (NOYO) has been an institution in northern Ohio for over 30 years. Privileged to make its home in at the renowned Oberlin Conservatory of Music, NOYO has provided a unique musical experience to more than 2,600 talented young musicians during its history.

NOYO offers a variety of programs to attract all levels of ability. We sponsor two full orchestras: the Philharmonia for advanced musicians through 12th grade, and the Symphonetta, a training orchestra for younger instrumentalists through 9th grade. There is also Camerata (formerly Reading Orchestra) providing young string players with a first-hand ensemble experience. NOYO is proud to sponsor a chamber music program, a variety of small ensembles for brass, winds, and strings, and the Summer Chamber Music Camp.

Orchestra participants are selected through competitive auditions held in May and September. The groups rehearse weekly at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and perform two or three full concerts at various venues throughout the school year. The NOYO conductors and parents often arrange special tours and appearances for the groups in addition to the regular concerts. These can include trips to nearby cities, exchanges with other youth orchestras, and special outreach and fundraising appearances at area schools, malls, and community functions.

Students can experience all the excitement and benefits of participating in the great traditions of orchestral music. They have the option to grow their musical knowledge, and perform challenging music for audiences throughout northern Ohio. They can also meet musicians from other schools and experience the fun of creating a great sound together. Students can feel the pride of accomplishment and inspire other young musicians to expand their horizons.
