The Four Orchestras of NOYO

The NOYO program provides progressive educational musical opportunities to children from the primary grades through high school.

Camerata

Designed to be a first orchestra program for string players, Camerata is open to any string student with approximately two years of study, without audition.  Directed by Oberlin Conservatory students under the supervision of NOYO Artistic Director Joanne Erwin, the Camerata meets from 3 to 4 pm on Sundays.  There are two sessions of the Camerata, one in the fall and one in the spring.

Symphonetta

The Symphonetta is the “younger” of the two full ensembles of NOYO.  Students who audition are selected by their ability and according to the ensemble’s needs.  Under the direction of Joanne Erwin, the Symphonetta introduces students to their first experience playing symphonic repertoire.

The Bridge

The Bridge is designed to help young string players make a transition from the kinds of music played in Symphonetta, and the more difficult music played by the Philharmonia.  It is a group selected and conducted by Joanne Erwin.

Philharmonia

The Philharmonia is the direct descendent of the original Lorain County Youth Orchestra.  Young persons who begin in the Symphonetta and who show growth and advancing skill, as well as newcomers to the NOYO program who are prepared for the more rigorous and disciplined requirements of playing major orchestral works are led by Tim Weiss.
